M.Y.R.A.C.E. (Mercer County Youth Reducing Alcohol Consumption through Education) is a youth driven coalition whose focus is to reduce underage use of alcohol through:
 Awareness
 Education
 Community Building and
 Environmental Change
Members of M.Y.R.A.C.E. are Student Activists representing the following districts:
 Farrell School District
 Greenville School District
 Grove City School District
 Lakeview School District
 Mercer School District
 Reynolds School District
 Sharpsville School District
 Sharon School District
M.Y.R.A.C.E creates programs to address 3 identified risk factors:
1. Parental Approval of Underage Drinking
2. Law Enforcement Overlooking Underage Drinking
3. Kids Thinking Drinking Alcohol is "the cool thing to do"
The above risk factors were identified, in 2000, by youth active in the MYRACE Coalition. These three factors are reflective of the students' perception of what contributes to the underage drinking problem in Mercer County.
Past Accomplishments:
Through Grants from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, the youth participants have had the opportunity to compile a "What Page Are You On?" Safe Homes Directory. Many Members have also had the opportunity to attend the Student Activists Training sponsored by the Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission at Fort Indiantown Gap. Five members had the privilege to attend a Youth Rally in Harrisburg to speak with state senators and legislators about alcohol compliance checks and keg tagging. The members also held a law enforcement seminar asking key community leaders and law enforcement why there are kids who still get away with just a slap on the wrist when caught drinking underage. We, the Youth want to know why and want answers now!
